Reference for EVERY Character Key on a Mac

Ever wanted to type the copyright icon, or do an accent over an A without having to resort to some character palette? We have, and it takes time and is an effort. So we put together a series of help sheets that reference all of the characters that aren’t listed on your keyboard, along with their shortcut keys to make your life easier.

Safari 4, so far

After few days of intense Safari (dumped Firefox for now), I have to say it is the most stable beta software I’ve ever seen.

  • It is pretty fast
  • Didn’t crash once and didn’t other apps to crash either
  • I love the Top Sites view
  • It parses everything perfectly (personal experience)
  • Opening many tabs doesn’t kill it like with Firefox
  • Developer tools got even better
  • Moving tabs (arrange) needs more practice, still moving the enitre window!
  • I got used the tabs-above-everything pretty quick
  • I still miss my Firefox plugins!

One of the silly thing I made that came out to be an extremely helpful tool, was the web clip I made from a desing-lab.com color mixer into my Dashboard.

Making Safari open links in a tab

… It’s as simple as opening a terminal window and pasting in the following line:

defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Shut down Safari and restart it and off you go! From now on clicks that would normally open a whole new browser window will instead be targeted in a new tab in your current Safari window.
