Dear Tumblr

Dear Tumblr,

You are so amazing. But please change the way tweeting a post works.

Tweeting a vague line like “Link: http://tumblr.com/xgv9trc3s” is not so helpful for other tweeps. Who would click that other than a super huge fan (that I don’t have any)?

I’m sure with your talent (seriously) it will take just a few hours to develop a function that takes the title of the post or an excerpt of the text and puts it in the tweet along with the link, so I (and many others) won’t need to type it manually or worse, forget it to do so.

Thanks a ton and keep up the great work. Tumblr is the Apple of blogging platforms.

P.S. If there is already a way doing this, please ignore this message. My apologies.

A Tumblr wish

I wish there was a box in Customize > Advanced for adding customized HTML to header and footer of the page, so I could switch themes quickly without adding scripts like Analytics, etc. manually.

Am I too lazy?

Or is it there already?

Better SEO for Tumblr

Tumblr themes (usually) display the title of the tumblelog first causing a repetitive begining for all the pages. For example all my posts indexed in Google will begin with “ordered Chaos - …”. Not good.

Google and other search engines don’t like this and they might give your sless attention in indexing and search results.

To overcome this, simply replace the contents of the <title> tag of you theme with this code:

{block:PostSummary}{PostSummary} &ndash; {/block:PostSummary} {Title}{/block:PostTitle}{block:SearchPage} &#124; Search results for: {SearchQuery}{/block:SearchPage}

It just switches the position of the post summary and the title for every page to have an identical title. It adds the serach phrase (if applicable) too.

If you are not sure how to do it:

  1. Click Customize on the side bar while you are in Dahsboard.
  2. Click Theme and then click Custom HTML in the theme window.
  3. Find the <title> tag in the code (don’t get scared!)
  4. Replace the code between <title> and </title> tags with the code above.
  5. Click Save Changes.

It is recommended to backup the old theme (just selct all and paste it in a text editor), so if you messed it up you can just paste the old theme back.

P.S. This is not a new topic and I just tweaked the available idea (credit to people who mentioned this before).

Tumblr for iPhone?

It’s about time, seriously!

I’m so lazy (or let say have never made an iPhone app before!) so I’ll wait for soemebody to step out and create some neat app for iPhone, just like the one Facebook has.

With all that image posting and text and video (well video is still a matter of time for iPhone) authoring tools, it would be a killer!

I’m even ready to pay for that. What do you say?
